Living Room with a View
Getting unmatched sofas sometimes makes the living room cozy and welcoming. Living room is in fact for entertaining guests. I think that this one is just perfect. The glass walls with the view of the city makes the room feel so open. Makes it ideal for very open conversations with family and friends. The piano on the side could also well be a topic of conversation besides the vast things people can talk about looking over the city. The designer couldn’t have picked a better place for the fireplace. The carpet perfectly gave the room texture and just enough softness. Having kept the ceiling open and have 3 big beams across the room made the impression of a very big and spacious room.
A consistent material palate was used throughout the project: copper and charcoal slate, maple and cherry wood, and concrete countertops, which reflect the striking vaulted copper roof and the organic exterior color scheme.
Living Room in Black and White
Nice and clean. Very modern and everything blends in. The bird on top of the white cabinet is a nice touch of softness in the room. This room looks like it was specifically designed for a bachelor. Very modern and contemporary.
I have an issue with this though. If one has a living room as this, it would be so cold and unwelcoming. Everything just looks too hard and the bird just wasn’t enough to soften it enough. Now, that’s just my opinion. Lighting up those candles could very well ruin the color scheme in the room even. It just looks too picturesque to have to be there to actually be used. I just don’t see my living room like this. It seems to be missing life and just plain boring. This room could use some soft texture, if not color.
All in all, it looks nice. My only concern is its real functionality.
Modern-day Prometheus
Greek mythology says that Prometheus stole fire from the gods. The gods got mad at him for bringing it to man as that makes man equal to the gods. Having discovered fire, man survived the wilderness. The image of a family huddling together around a warming stove is the epitome of domestic cosiness and security. The Jotul 373 wood burning stove is purist and functional in its. The stove can stand almost anywhere in the room and thus creates a new living room quality. It has unique precision in the cast iron, and can be operated from all sides. The wood burning stove can also be rotated 360 degrees when it is fitted with a flue outlet at the top and with a turntable. In order to adapt to a variety of different interiors, the basic models of the three stoves in this range can be fitted individually and combined with a variety of leg sets. The stoves can also be fitted with an additional glass front panel that lowers the surface temperature on the front. Another unique and well-conceived feature is the decorative panels for the side windows. The panels protect walls and furniture from direct radiant heat and create evocative shadow figures on the walls. In order to give the experience of true open fire, the wood-burning stove has been designed with large glass sides – giving a direct view on the elementary play of the flames.
This would be perfect for a family living in a contemporary home and refuses to be left behind by time, and yet, want to to keep the tradition on family bonding.

I personally like Victorian design on my living room. Very intricate details on wood and ivory, handcrafted lamps, hand sewn fabrics and very elaborate carpet design. My dilemma is that when you have these in your living room, it feels as if you are somewhat sacrificing the welcoming feeling in your home. Imagine yourself entering such room. There is this feeling the need to be extra careful on your every movement. The worry of breaking one of those really beautiful vases, or spilling wine on the carpet. You cannot ignore the possibilities of ruining such a well put together living room. You might even consider on just talking in the kitchen instead. You get the beauty you wanted but you can’t really use it.
I want my living room to be a place where I can have guests feel welcome and “at home”. A living room where my family can sit down, play board games, and bond. When I think about it, it seems that these two things are hard to have in the same living room. I know many who have the same sentiments as I have. Specially if you have kids running around your home all the time.
Zen is originally a spiritual practice of Buddhists. It is done so that a person will interact with nature and the entire world harmoniously.
Zen, in terms of interior design is usually a style wherein furniture is sparse and the room is decorated in a simple manner. Zen is often monochromatic and rarely has loud colors incorporated.
Though some may add a splash of color, it is done tastefully as to not upset the whole balance of the room. Zen practices clean lines and spartan surroundings. It is not gaudy and attract too much attention.
